In the last video, we saw the 部首 of the body, there are 部首 related to the inside of the body that I'd like to show you in this video.
Let's go from top to bottom and to the 部首 that goes around the entire body.
Still, head first.
we have
牙、齒、舌
牙and 齒
Usually we will translate tooth to 牙齒, so you would know that they are both related to tooth.
In everyday conversation, we use 牙 more often, like
- 牙醫dentist
- 牙齦 gums
- 牙刷toothbrush
On the other hand, 齒 is used more in idioms or slangs, so we have
- 明眸皓齒 Someone has big bright eyes and white even teeth. It is used to praise people's beauty.
- 羞於啟齒 Too embarrassed to say it
- 何足掛齒 What I did is just a little thing, it's not worth mentioning.
There are also some slangs that use 牙, such as
- 以牙還牙 a tooth for a tooth, right, It's from the Old Testament. So an eye for an eye is 以眼還眼
I don't want to mention, but some idioms or slangs use them both, we have
- 伶牙俐齒 good at refute
- 唇亡齒寒 It means without lips, the teeth feel cold. Describe two people or things so close that neither can survive without the other.
舌
Don't forget: In the mouth, we also have tongue舌頭 and to move the tongue across the surface of something is 舔 lick
Sometimes 舔 will appear with 舐, 舔舐 all means lick.
心
心 means 心臟 heart has two types
Ancient people think the heart is in the center of the body, so we have 中心 center and people's thinking, thoughts, and emotions are all from the heart, so the heart is related to these things.
- 想法 thought
- 意識conscious
- 情感emotion
骨
Last one is 骨頭 bone
The hard parts inside a human or animal that make us stand. we have 骨架 skeleton.
Also, use to describe personality, we have 風骨 it means staunch, not easy to falter.
The other meaning is the style and spirit of your production.
畫虎畫皮難畫骨,知人知面不知心
If you draw a tiger, you could easily draw the outline, but the most difficult thing is to draw the spirit. the 骨 in here means spirit.
When you meet someone, it is easy to see their appearance. But the most difficult thing is to know their mind.
