There are a lot of creatures in Earth except human, so in today's video, I would like to share the 部首of creatures.
Let's start with our best friend, the dog.

犬Canidae is a biological family of dog-like carnivorans that has two types 犬、犭
Colloquially referred to as dogs, so we have dog 狗 and its family wolf 狼.
If we stack this word with two or more, called 疊字.It is usually used to strengthen the meaning of the word itself or to emphasize the characteristics of the word.
So, stack three 犬, it will be 猋, this word means dogs run wild.

next one is kitty, oh~ no~

豸:獬豸

is a mythical ancient Chinese creature that has great intellect and understands human language. The 獬豸 possesses the innate ability to distinguish right from wrong, so it is known as a symbol of justice.
We can see the basis of this creature's appearance by looking at this picture, So a similar appearance of this creature will use the same 部首, such as
  • cat
  • 豺 jackal
  • 豹 leopard
The tiger is the largest living cat species, its 部首 is

so we have 虎 tiger.
You probably know that Chinese characters is kind of hieroglyph, so this 虐 abuse, means someone treats people with violence, you can imagine that there is a tiger suppressed on a human, does this look like a human to you?
The word 彪 refers to the stripes on a tiger's body, you can use this word to describe a person as strong as a tiger.

Now let's look at the tasty creatures.
We have

Bovine 牛

There is a saying that 初生之犢不畏虎, It means that a calf doesn't know how terrible a tiger is, just like young people don't know how cruel the world is. They are still brave enough to go after what they want, no matter how hard they are going to get hit.
So this 犢 means calf.
牠 is a third-person pronoun, we use it to refer to third parties other than people, you can just translate it as "it", but only for animals.
The cowshed must have a roof, so if you put your cow under the roof, it means you have locked your cattle in one place, so 牢 means a place to be fenced in, and some people break the law and are punished in jail, we say they are in jail 坐牢.

The last one is

Suidae is a family of artiodactyl mammals that are commonly called pigs, hogs, or swine 豬.
豚 also means pig, Japanese kanji also refer to this word as pig.
Bigger than a pig, with a longer nose than a pig is an elephant 象
Somehow the ancient Chinese looked at dolphin as a pig of the sea, so dolphin 海豚.
