順
The word "順", its left side is the word: "川" (river), which is a hieroglyph, look at this picture, you can see that the lines on either side represent the shore and the middle line represents the water. On the right side is the word: "頁"(page), "頁" means page, one of the sheets of paper in a book, newspaper, or magazine.
We know the separate meaning of the words. Now, use your imagination: Please imagine: a piece of paper is placed on a river. It will float on the water and move with the direction of the current. So "順" means that one thing moves according to another thing.
So, "Things are going smoothly." is 事情進展順利。

詞
順從 obey：Obey means to act according to what someone in authority asks or commands you to do. So, he obeyed his parents' orders. 他順從父母的命令。
溫順 meek：If someone is quiet, gentle, and unwilling to argue or express their opinions forcefully, we will say: Their personality is meek. 他們的個性溫順。
按照順序 in order：If we want something to be ordered according to ordinal, we say: Please arrange these books in order. 請按照順序排列這些書籍。
順其自然 go with the flow：順其自然 means whatever happens will happen, you just have to go with the flow, and let things happen. So, we could say: 該做的都做了，接下來就順其自然吧。You've done everything you should, so go with the flow.
