Explanation:福

We talk about the word "福利" in "Explanation:利.

福利 welfare:Welfare is the provision of help, especially by the government or an organization, to people who need it.
In today's video, we have a look at the word "福".

The word 福 has two parts, one is 部首"示(礻)" and the other is the word 畐(音同:福). This word may be a horizontal line, a big square, and four little squares to you, but in my eyes the word is "一口田" a plot of land.
The crops produced on the land can be eaten or sold for money, so the land is considered a tool for survival. If this tool is blessed by the divine, it is 福.

福 also contains the meaning of luck and chance.
For example:耳福 means to get lucky or to have the chance to hear wonderful music.

Next, let's look at the words that can be combined with "福" to form 詞.

  • 福氣、福澤: 氣 is something you can't see or touch, but it's all around you, like air;澤's 部首 is 水, it means that there are two or more rivers that flow together to one place, and that's a lot of water. So these two words mean: Blessings surround you like air or lots of water.
    • 他福澤深厚,必能渡過難關。He has God's blessing, and he must be able to do things through difficulties.
  • 「口福」、「眼福」、「耳福」:口 mouth、眼eye、耳ear. Putting these three words in front of 福 means getting lucky or having a chance to eat delicious food / see fantastic shows / hear wonderful music.
    • 若很會做菜,你今天有口福了。Ruo is good at cooking. You can eat something delicious today.
  • 福態:is used to describe someone who has a curvy figure. More specifically, it is used to describe someone who has a chubby face, looks cute and lovable.
    • 她有張福態的臉,看起來很可愛。She has a chubby face and looks cute.
