How to use the vocabulary: Pet 1.2.3.4.6



So far(September 2024), I have uploaded over 500 short films, over 1500 vocabulary. Now it's time to learn how to use them, I'll try to use these words to make a sentence or story to show you how to use them.


Let's start by reviewing the vocabulary we are going to be using.

我們家附近最近新開了一間動物醫院(veterinary),裡面的獸醫(veterinarian)長的超帥了。
所以我和鄰居借了寵物(pet),想要去欣賞獸醫的臉。

鄰居家的狗是一隻已經結紮(neuter)的成犬。出門前,我鄰居已經幫狗狗穿好防暴衝背帶(pet harness)了;聽說P字鍊(chock chain)對狗狗比較危險,所以他們換成這一種。我接過牽繩(leash),帶著和我一樣興奮的狗狗,往動物醫院出發。

一到醫院,就看到有人在幫貓咪滴潔耳液(ear mite remedy)和擦化毛膏(hairball remedy),那隻貓咪好乖,都不會掙扎。

但我身邊這隻不一樣,所以我緊緊抱著牠等待叫號。

終於!輪到我去看醫生的臉… 不是,輪到我們去看診了。醫生看起來很棒… 不是,醫生檢查完以後,告訴我說:狗狗寄生蟲感染(parasite infection)了,要帶防咬頸圈(Elizabethan collar ),會開除蟲藥給我,記得按時餵藥;並提醒我,下次來狗狗要打預防針了。

我抱著已經被帶上頸圈的狗狗等待領藥。牠非常沒有精神,不知道是不是因為下次要打預防針。我只好安慰它:「打預防針才不會得狂犬病(rabies)或犬瘟(canine)啊,放心,你不是貓,不會得貓瘟(feline panleukopenia),哈… 」它似乎不太欣賞我的笑話,依舊淚汪汪的看著我。

我們家附近最近新開了一間動物醫院(veterinary),裡面的獸醫(veterinarian)長的超帥的。
A new veterinary hospital has recently opened near my home and the vet who works there is charming.
所以我和鄰居借了寵物(pet),想要去欣賞獸醫的臉。
So, to go to the hospital and admire the vet's face, I borrowed a pet from my neighbor.
  • 借 borrow/lend/loan
    • 借 To borrow means to get something from someone with the intention of returning it after a certain period of time.
    • To lend is to give something to someone for a short period of time with the expectation that it will be returned. also called 借
    • To loan means an amount of money that is borrowed and has to be paid back, called 借錢 and can be shortened to "借". 
      The words borrow, lend, and loan are all called 借 in Chinese.

鄰居家的狗是一隻已經結紮(neuter)的成犬。
The neighbor's dog is a neutered adult dog.
出門前,我鄰居已經幫狗狗穿好防暴衝背帶(pet harness)了。
Before going out, my neighbor had already put the dog in a pet harness.
聽說P字鍊(chock chain)對狗狗比較危險,所以他們換成這一種。
Some say that the choke chain is more dangerous for dogs, so they changed to this type.

  •  和我一樣興奮的 as excited as me.
    The sentence pattern "as...as..." in Chinese is "...和....一樣". The order is the opposite.
    • as + adjective/adverb + as + noun/pronoun/clause
      =  和 noun/pronoun/clause 一樣 adjective/adverb。

一到醫院,就看到有人在幫貓咪滴潔耳液(ear mite remedy)和擦化毛膏(hairball remedy),那隻貓咪好乖,都不會掙扎。
When we arrived at the hospital, I saw someone applying ear mite and hairball remedies to a cat. The cat was so well-behaved that it didn't even struggle.
  • The collocation word with ointment is 擦,擦藥膏; Put ear drops in the ear, we use 滴,滴液體 dripping liquid. All liquids can use 滴, including eye drops, but putting eye drops in the eye has another collocation word "點", 點眼藥水.
    • 擦藥膏 apply ointment
    • 滴液體 dripping liquid
    • 點眼藥水 Put eye drops in the eye.

  • 淚汪汪的 tearful eyes
    We only use 淚汪汪 to describe the eyes full of tears, so sometimes we leave out the word eyes.
