This story is come for the movie《Office有鬼》(Haunted Office, 2002).
Legend has it that in this office building, on the seventh month of the lunar calendar, exactly nine people die every year without exception.
Today, I'm going to tell the first story. It's a simple story, but I find it very scary.
最後一格(the deepest stall in the restroom)
On her first day of work, 阿潘 listens to the idle chatter of employees from other companies in the building. They are talking about a strange legend about the building: every year during the seventh month of the lunar calendar, nine people die without exception. As she gets scared, someone suddenly greets her from the side. After a few seconds of small talk, all of the employees who were chatting disappeared.
She thinks it's probably time to start working, so everyone has left. She hurries into the elevator. Strangely, a young girl dressed all in white, with long, white hair, is squatting in the corner of the elevator, continuously saying, "I'm sorry." Just as the elevator arrives at her floor, 阿潘 quickly leaves in fear.
In the deepest stall in the restroom, a girl stands in front of an open door, seemingly having a very happy conversation. But 阿潘 notices something strange: the girl is standing on her tiptoes.
Just then, a colleague appears and tells her, "This restroom is unclean(不乾淨). You should use the one downstairs." The girl, still on tiptoes, leaves the restroom. As 阿潘 follows her, she notices that the girl is still walking on her tiptoes. Much to her surprise, the girl who was walking on tiptoes returns to her office and hangs herself with a creepy smile on her face.
- 不乾淨 VS 髒 :Unclearn VS Dirty
- “乾淨” means clean, and its opposite is “dirty”. Most of the time, “不乾淨” (unclean) means physically dirty, but it can also be used to describe something supernatural or spiritual. For example:
- 這間房子雖然沒有人住,但是打掃得很乾淨。
Even though no one lives in this house, it's been cleaned very well. - 這間房子髒亂不堪,看起來已廢棄多時。
The house is a complete mess and looks like it has been abandoned for a long time. - 這間房子不乾淨。 It usually means "this house is haunted," not just dirty.
The next day, the same thing happens to another girl. She stands on her tiptoes and chats with someone in front of the deepest stall in the restroom before dying. 阿潘 checks the restroom, but it is just a normal storage room.
That night, 阿潘 is working late. She really needs to use the restroom, but she is afraid, so she lingers in front of it. Suddenly, a green light flashes from inside! She tries to run away, covering her eyes, and crouches in a corner of the office. When she opens her eyes again, she finds herself squatting in the restroom. A terrifying hand reaches out from a stall door.
Frantically, 阿潘 runs out of the restroom. On her way out, she runs into a colleague who has just returned. Before her colleague has a chance to understand what is happening, the hand grabs her and drags her into the restroom.
阿潘 musters her courage, grabs a fire axe, and prepares to save her colleague heroically. But when she opens the door, her colleague, who was dragged in, along with the two deceased colleagues, stands looking at her. They smile and say, "Welcome to the club!"
The next day, another colleague sees 阿潘 standing on her tiptoes and chatting with someone in the restroom. She then returns to the office with a creepy smile, breaks the window, and jumps to her death.
