無照駕駛 driving without a icense

  • 解釋:
    In a general context, the term "高齡" is typically used to describe individuals who are 65 years of age or older. However, specific definitions can vary. In Taiwan, for example, "高齡駕駛" are legally defined as individuals who hold a driver's license for cars or motorcycles and are 75 years old or older.
  • 例句:
    • 台灣新法規定,所有75歲以上的高齡駕駛必須通過一系列身體和認知測試,才能繼續持有駕照。
      According to Taiwan's new law, all drivers aged 75 and older must pass a series of physical and cognitive tests to keep their driver's licenses.

酒駕 drink driving

  • 解釋:
    "酒駕(Drink driving)", which is more accurately referred to as "driving under the influence" (DUI), does not require the driver to be fully intoxicated; it is illegal simply if the alcohol concentration exceeds the legal limit. In Taiwan, this limit applies to administrative penalties when the breath alcohol concentration is 0.15 mg or higher, or the blood alcohol concentration is 0.03% or higher.
  • 例句:
    • 那個藝人被抓到酒駕後名聲就臭掉啦,沒有廠商敢和他合作。
      The celebrity's reputation was ruined after being caught drunk driving, and no company is willing to risk damaging its reputation by collaborating with him.
      • 臭掉 literally means "to stink" or "to go bad." 
        • 臭掉的雞蛋 rotten eggs
        • When used to modify "reputation(名聲)," it means reputation gone bad. It is a colloquial metaphor used to describe a person whose name evokes such strong negative feelings that people immediately recoil upon hearing it.
