Distinguishing Between: 播放、首播、直播、轉播

Do you watch TV in Taiwan? Today, let's look at four common terms you might see on the screen:  播放、首播、直播、轉播.

播放 Play/ Broadcast/ Air

• Transmit sound and images through media such as loudspeakers, radios, televisions, and computers.

• 例句：
• 用手機播放音樂。
  Play music with a mobile phone.
• 電視正在播放最新消息。
  The television is broadcasting the latest news.
  
• 最新電影預計在1月6號晚上播出。
  The latest movie is expected to air on the evening of January 6th.

首播 Premiere

• The first public performance of a play or other form of entertainment.

• 例句：
• 那部新劇將於週五晚上在串流平台上首播。
  The new series will premiere on the streaming platform this Friday night.

直播 Live broadcast/ Live stream

• A broadcast or stream of an event that is transmitted in real time as it happens.

• 例句：
• 為了看運動賽事的直播，他整晚沒睡。
  He stayed up all night to watch the live broadcast of the sporting event.
  
• 那位網紅開直播解釋最近發生的爭議。
  The influencer went live to address the recent dispute.
  
• The collocated verb is "開"= 開始 (to start) or 開啟 (open).

轉播 Live coverage

• It refers to live coverage of an event, in which video and audio are transmitted to an audience in real time, often accompanied by commentary.

• 例句：
• 我們將在現場實況轉播，為您帶來最新消息。
  We are reporting live from the scene to bring you the latest updates.
• The character "您" is the respectful form of "你"(you). It is used to show politeness or respect toward others. 
  This character is composed of "你" (you) placed on top of "心" (heart), symbolizing that you keep the person in your heart because you care deeply about them. It is commonly used for strangers or elders; using it with close friends might make them feel that you are intentionally keeping a distance from them.
