How to Distinguish: 插播、重播、停播

In today's lesson, we will learn three words related to TV broadcasting: 插播, 重播, and 停播.

插播 Interruption / Breaking news 

• To stop a broadcast for a short time to show something else, usually urgent.

• 例句：
• 我們要插播一則緊急新聞。
  We interrupt this program to bring you a breaking news report.

重播 Rerun/ Replay

• It refers to a television program or series being broadcast again after its original airing. The other meaning is playing a video or audio recording again, often immediately after it ends.

• 例句：
• 他不斷按重播鍵，希望可以聽懂歌詞。
  He kept pressing the replay button, hoping to catch the lyrics.
  
• 過年重播到爛電影！「賭神」只排第4！
  Movies shown as reruns to death during the Lunar New Year! "God of Gamblers" only ranked 4th!

停播 Not airing

• It means a program is not being broadcast at its scheduled time.
  
  If it's temporary: We would say 暫時停播 or 今天停播 to describe the situation; If it's permanent, we say it's 永久停播 or 被腰斬.
• In the context of mass media, the term "腰斬"(Being axed) refers to the sudden termination of a serialized work or program that is currently being broadcast. Depending on the context, this can mean halting a broadcast, not producing a subsequent season, or bringing the story to an early conclusion.

• 例句：
• A: 我最喜歡的影集停播了。
  My favorite series is off the air.
• B: 被腰斬啦？
   Was it axed?
• A: 不是啦！這週因為跨年節目停播啦！
  No! It’s just not airing this week because of the New Year’s Eve specials.
